LMG and NBP

We had dual ship operations at the Palmer pier for the first time since 2000. Both the Lawrence M. Gould and the Nathaniel B. Palmer tied up at the pier together. 

 They set up a gangway from one ship to the other so the NBP folks could come ashore. The LMG crane took cargo from the NBP and swung it onto station.

 That's a lot of big orange boat.

Our sky track was very very old and broke beyond repair this winter so it was taken away for disposal. The sky track is a piece of heavy machinery used to move things around station (drums, materials, cargo, food, etc). Look at all the that ice. The Gould had a slow time getting out of port.

Sea Life

A science group came on the latest ship to study krill. This is their big tub of krill they caught from the vessel. 

A couple star fish we found near the boat ramp.

When the tide went out these krill got stuck in the pick points in the boat ramp. 

Skiing and GSAR Training

We went out to walk on a rope line and see if we could find a stable and open crevasse to climb for a GSAR training. 

There is a nice and thick layer of solid snow over everything to there are not very many open crevasses right now. This is looking back down at our peninsula from the glacier north of station.

Taking advantage of a nicer day to ski the glacier before the snow melts away.

So much snow the flags marking the safe area are almost buried.

Huge ice burg about 10 miles away, the island next to it is about 60 feet high, so that's a huge huge burg.

Sunsets

 In between the storms we've had a few nice sunsets.

The ice is still very thick around station so we haven't been able to go boating at all yet this season.
