Sunday Tour Guiding

Last Sunday the pier builders finally got a their first non-weather related day off since they arrived in December. I took a few of them out on a boat tour around the area. 

It was a beautiful sunny and calm day. Fantastic day to be out on the water. 

Mt William looking good in fresh snow. 

The giant petrel chicks are just a few weeks away from fledging now. 

Copper deposits? Not sure, but it looks cool. 

There was thick brash ice and new ice forming. Winter is definitely settling in quickly. Time to migrate. 
 

Winter is creeping in

Out on Amsler Island there is a steep snow slope, with the right snow and wind conditions these snow wheels roll themselves down the hill. 

Snow is starting to stick, it must be time to start thinking about migrating north.

I've always liked the glacier tongue to the west of the boating area.

The clouds have been quite thick recently. 

 

Visiting islands - for work

Winter is upon us. The new pier is almost done. The penguins are all gone so it's time to change the batteries on the penguin colony game cameras and retrieve the data. 

Pier builders are done drilling and are packing up all the drilling tools/compressors. 

I've always really liked this rock wall, especially in the snow, the colors are fantastic. 

 Happy grass in the second snow of 2022. 

Sunsets are back (at a better hour for viewing)

WE have now passed the equinox and are working ourselves back into winter. It's starting to get darker earlier which means I am now awake for the sunsets - when the weather decides to let us see the sun.
