Penguin Chicks

Last week the island (Torgeson) with the adelie penguin colonies half opened for recreational visits.
This is what happens when Antarcticans see grass.
 Baby penguins!!
 Penguins and station!

This one found a rock he likes.
The chicks make very cute and persistent peeping noises.
They are very hungry and growing fast.
There was a lady elephant seal hanging out near our boat landing.

In certain melt water pools, there is a freshwater shrimp called a fairy shrimp. We went looking for them where they have been seen in previous years.
It's really amazing that they can wait out the harsh winters just to come back again when the conditions are just right.

This was an abandoned skua nest/egg.
