Part of everyone's job on station is outreach. There are tour ship of all sizes in the area that stop by Palmer. If the ship is very large (more than 200 people) we will zodiac out to the boat give a little presentation about what it is like to live and work in Antarctica and then have a questions and Answer session.
If the boat is less than 200 people they come ashore and we give tours and let them stop in our store to buy t-shirts and stickers. If the boat is really small we will cook them some cookies and give them a slightly long tour.
Here is our boat ramp and where the tour groups land when they come ashore.Sometimes the vessels invite us out for dinner, coffee, or a tour. My favorite vessels to visit are the scientific vessels from other countries Antarctic programs.
This is the inside of one of the small vessels that came to visit yesterday. This vessel had a crew of 5 and 12 passengers.
