I
went out a little more than a half mile with some grantees to check on a few antennas.
The plateau looked like someone had dumped glitter everywhere.
The pictures really don’t do it justice. The snow was sparkling with very vivid colors, mostly blue, but there was a good amount of green, red, orange and yellow too. It was amazing. Found some more cool ice crystals behind a vault hatch.
For scale.
This
guy just skied here, it took him 40 days and he did it alone. There are some
impressive people out there.
When
tourists come here that stay longer than an hour or so they sleep at the
tourist camp run by the company they booked their trip though, grid north of the station. They are allowed to come take a tour of the
station but not allowed to go in the labs or sleep or eat here or use NSF resources.
