Today I helped do the skiway check. This is taken at the end of the skiway looking back at the station. The skiway is checked for foreign debris everyday there will be incoming flights.
I drove a snow machine!
We had the head of the Russian Antarctic Program visit the pole today. They came in a Basler. This plane was built in the 1940s and was recently refurbished from a crash, this is it first tour after being fixed up.
I helped refuel the Basler and defuel two LC-130s.
The Canadian flight crew gave me a nice tour of the plane. They said the cockpit actually sits higher than a 747 cockpit. I don't wear big red when I work with fuel, I wear a "Carhart" so big red doesn't smell like fuel all the time. It's actually a different set of everything, maybe when I'm having a boring week (if that's possible) I'll explain the layers I wear when I go outside.
Here are the skis!

I finally stitched a panoramic together from the pictures I took on the roof earlier this week. If you look closely you can see the ceremonial pole to the left of the sun. The cloud is from the C-17 air drop. You can click on it to make it bigger.

Muy interesante, me contenta que la Estes pasando bien. El Basler muy paresido al DC-3 de dónde vino? McMurdo? Chile? Dijeron cuánto tiempo tomó el vuelo? Es un avión lento. Cuando comienzan a trabajar en el invernadero? Tus experimentos van bien? TQM cuídate. Papa
ReplyDeleteThe plane came from Vostok, the Russian station in East Antarctica. It is a Canadian plane chartered by the Russians. I think it takes a few hours to get to Vostok from here. I just started learning about how to run the green house last weekend, I'm going to be the head of the greenhouse for the winter.
