Sastrugi is the deformations and ripples made in the snow and ice by the wind. There are some awesome looking sastrugi.
The cylinder is called the beer can and it is the stair well that leads to the arches and the power plant. It's about -50 in there and is notoriously hard to climb up.
View from under the station with the beer can behind me. you can see the snow drifts surrounding the station. We get about 10 feet of snow blown in over the course of a year.
